Iron Making


  • Applicable B-Degree (NQF 7/8 or NQF 8/10)
  • Post graduate management qualification will serve as recommendation

Experience and Requirements:

  • 8 €“ 10 years relevant experience in the Iron and Steel Making industry
  • Relevant experience in a management position
  • Knowledge of Iron making, Steel making and Rolling processes
  • Sound knowledge of maintenance management principles
  • Experience in furnace reline projects will serve as recommendation

Key Performance Areas:

  • Responsible for the co-creation of the Saldanha Works strategy
  • Responsible for the strategy formulation of Iron Making as derived from Saldanha Works strategy
  • Manage the Iron Making Department (workforce, equipment, processes etc.) on sound business principles
  • Optimize Corex and Midrex performance (Through-put, yield etc) according to set objectives
  • Drive CI and CAPEX initiatives for the Iron Making Department
  • Manage budget and optimize related cost
  • Conduct high level negotiations with customers and suppliers
  • Coaching and development of direct reports and high potential employees
  • Manage of SHERQ, information technology and communication issues within area of responsibility
